Who I am

Canopy Studios is run by me, Jacob Clayton, an individual based in Wildwood, Florida, USA. I handle every privacy and legal question myself. I don't publish a street address, so please reach me by email or phone using the details at the end of this section.

The contact form

When you send an inquiry, the form asks for your name, your email address, the service you're asking about, and, if you want, a phone number and a message. That's all it asks for. Submissions go through Netlify Forms (Netlify, Inc.), which stores each one and emails it to my inbox. I use what you send only to reply to you and to prepare a quote.

How long I keep it

I keep a submission while your inquiry or project is active, and for up to 2 years after that for my records. Then it's deleted in routine cleanup, or sooner if you ask.

Consent, calls and texts

The form has a consent checkbox, and it's required. If you include a phone number, you're agreeing that I may call or text you about your inquiry. Standard message rates may apply. Reply STOP to any text from me to opt out.

Booking a call

The free 30-minute call is scheduled through a Google Calendar appointment page run by Google LLC. Google's privacy policy applies to whatever you enter there.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted by Netlify. Like any host, Netlify keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) for security, for a short period.

No tracking, and nothing loaded from other companies

There are no analytics, advertising pixels or cross-site tracking on canopystudios.us. Every font, script and video on the site is served from canopystudios.us itself, so loading a page doesn't contact any other company's servers. The site's security settings block outside scripts, so this can't change by accident.

I don't sell or share it

I don't sell your information, rent it, or share it for advertising. The only companies that handle it are the ones named here, and only to run the form, the email and the booking page. Because nothing is sold or shared for ads, there's nothing to opt out of, but if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, that's fine too.

Your rights

Anyone can ask what information I hold about them, ask me to correct it, or withdraw consent, by emailing jacobclayton@canopystudios.us. I answer within 30 days. You don't need to live in any particular state or country to ask.

Deleting your information

To have everything I hold about you deleted, email me with the subject “Delete my information” from the address you used, or call (352) 805-8209. I'll delete your form submissions from Netlify, the emails in my inbox and any notes about your inquiry, then reply to confirm it's done, within 30 days.

The one exception: if we signed a project agreement, I keep the agreement and payment records for as long as tax law requires. I'll tell you exactly what was kept and why.

Children

The site is for business owners and is not directed at children under 13. I don't knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has sent me something through the form, email me and I'll delete it.

Security

Your information is handled through the providers named above, over encrypted connections. No method of storing or sending data is perfectly secure, and I can't promise otherwise.

Changes

This policy may change. When it does, the effective date at the top of this section updates.

Accepting these terms

Using canopystudios.us or signing a project agreement with me means you accept these terms.

What I offer

Website design and build (a one-time project); website care plans (monthly); social media management (monthly); local SEO setup (a one-time setup plus a monthly fee); and branding and print design (one-time).

How a project starts

Every project starts with a free 30-minute call, followed by a written agreement that states the scope, the timeline and the price. Nothing is quoted on the phone, and no payment is due before you have that agreement. The written price does not change unless the scope changes in writing. To sign a project agreement you must be at least 18.

Outside costs

Some things are paid to other companies, not to me: your domain name, your hosting plan if you need a paid one, and any paid app, plugin, font or stock photo your project needs. Your written quote lists each one that applies, with its current price and who bills it, before you pay anything. Apart from those, you pay only what your quote says.

Deposit and payment

A deposit starts the work and is credited to your total. Until you approve the homepage design, the deposit is fully refundable. Once you approve the homepage, production has started and the deposit is earned; if you cancel after that point, you pay only for the work completed. Final payment is due at launch, or as your agreement says.

Revisions and the support window

Website packages include a set number of revision rounds: Sapling has 2, Canopy has 3, and Grove has unlimited rounds during the build. Each also comes with a fix-and-support window after launch: 14 days for Sapling, 30 days for Canopy, 90 days for Grove. Work beyond that is quoted in writing.

Monthly plans

Social media plans have a 3-month minimum, then run month to month. Care plans are month to month and can be cancelled with 15 days' written notice. Monthly fees already paid are not refunded for a partial month, except where the law requires it.

Timeline

You get a first draft within 3 business days after you deliver your text, photos and logo. If your content arrives late, the project moves later with it.

What I need from you

Send your content on time, give me one point of contact, and put approvals in writing (email counts). You supply your own text, photos, logos and other content, and you confirm you have the right to use them, including copyright and the permission of any people pictured.

Approvals

Your approval of the homepage design starts production. Your final approval comes before launch.

You own the finished site

On final payment, the website is yours: the domain is registered in your name, hosting sits in your own account, and I hand over the source files at launch. There is no exit fee. I keep the right to show the work in my portfolio unless you ask me not to in writing.

Stock images, tools and reviews

I don't supply stock photography unless it's licensed and listed in your agreement. Every font, image and code library in a build is either yours, openly licensed for commercial use, or paid for and listed in your quote. Any reviews shown on your site come from your own Google Business Profile; I never write, edit or fabricate reviews.

What I promise, and what I don't

I do the work with reasonable skill and care. I don't promise search rankings, traffic, sales or follower counts.

Limits on liability

My liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the specific project. I'm not liable for indirect losses. Nothing here limits any liability that can't be limited by law.

Other companies' services

Hosting, domains, booking, payments and social platforms are run by their own companies under their own terms.

Ending a project

Either of us can end a project in writing. You pay for the work done to that point, and I deliver the files for what has been paid.

Disputes

If something goes wrong, we talk first. If we can't settle it, Florida law applies and any dispute goes to the state courts in Sumter County, Florida.

Which document wins

If these general terms and your signed project agreement conflict, the signed agreement wins.

This website's own content and credits

The words, logo, design and video on canopystudios.us are mine. The fonts Outfit and Instrument Sans are used under the SIL Open Font License. The smooth scrolling uses Lenis under the MIT License. The scroll animation uses GSAP under GreenSock's standard no-charge license. Both are self-hosted. The falling-leaves animation is my own code.

The short version

canopystudios.us sets no cookies at all. It saves your notice and animation preferences in your browser's local storage. There are no advertising or analytics cookies, pixels or cross-site tracking, which is why the notice only informs you and doesn't ask for consent: there's nothing to consent to.

What gets stored

• Your notice preference. When you dismiss the cookie notice, your browser saves that choice in localStorage under canopy-consent. It stays on your device and is not sent anywhere.
• Your animation preference. If you use the Pause motion button at the top of the homepage, your browser saves that preference in localStorage under canopy-motion. It stays on your device and is not sent anywhere.
• Google cookies. The booking link opens Google's appointment page. Google manages cookies on that page under its own policy.

What isn't here

No analytics, no advertising pixels, no cross-site tracking. Fonts are self-hosted on the live site.

Managing it

You can pause or resume the falling-leaves animation with the Pause motion button at the top of the homepage. You can clear the saved notice and animation preferences in your browser settings at any time.

Deposits

Your deposit is refundable in full at any time before you approve the homepage design. After homepage approval, production has started and the deposit is earned.

Cancelling a project after homepage approval

You pay for the work completed to date. If you prepaid the total, any unused portion is refunded.

Monthly plans

Care plans cancel with 15 days' written notice. Social media plans can be cancelled once the 3-month minimum is complete. There's no refund for a partial month that has already been billed, except where the law requires it.

How to ask

Email jacobclayton@canopystudios.us. Once a refund is approved, it goes back to the original payment method within 10 business days.

The goal

I aim for WCAG 2.2 at level AA on canopystudios.us.

What I do

Hand-coded, semantic HTML; labeled form fields; a skip link; visible keyboard focus on every link and button, which never ends up hidden behind the header or the notice; in-page links that move keyboard focus to where they land; text contrast checked against WCAG AA over the real rendered background; a text description for the video, which has music but no speech; and a warning for screen readers on links that open a new tab.

Known limits

The falling leaves are decorative. If your device asks for reduced motion, they stay still and all three website sizes are shown side by side instead of on the turning carousel. Anyone can also stop it with the Pause motion button at the top of the homepage. Google runs the booking page and controls its accessibility; if it gives you trouble, call or email instead and I'll book the time for you.
